La presente investigaci?n documental se aboc? a encontrar alternativas metodol?gicas, enfocadas en la motivaci?n, que contribuyesen a propiciar un desempe?o m?s uniforme en el aprendizaje del ingl?s de estudiantes de secundaria de instituciones como la Instituci?n Educativa Santo Tom?s de Aquino, en el municipio de Guarne, Antioqu?a, Colombia. La raz?n para desarrollar este estudio fue la necesidad de mejorar el aprendizaje de esta importante lengua, especialmente cuando el pa?s est? interesado en participar en el mundo globalizado. En primera instancia, se identific? como situaci?n problema el hecho de que el desempe?o de los estudiantes del contexto mencionado mostraba una gran variaci?n y que, seg?n la metodolog?a aplicada, se observaba apat?a en las clases y poco goce frente al aprendizaje del ingl?s. Luego, y debido a la situaci?n provocada por el COVID 19, se decidi? hacer una investigaci?n documental, centrada en hallar y evaluar informaci?n relacionada con la motivaci?n en el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera y con estrategias de aprendizaje del ingl?s que pudiesen responder mejor a las caracter?sticas de los sujetos del estudio. Esto con el fin de encontrar una alternativa propicia para ayudar a los estudiantes de secundaria a tener un desempe?o m?s uniforme en el aprendizaje del idioma. Finalmente, y despu?s de hacer un an?lisis cr?tico de la informaci?n desde el punto de vista te?rico, metodol?gico y legal, se seleccion? una alternativa que parece apropiada para incrementar la motivaci?n por el aprendizaje del ingl?s y, en consecuencia, reducir la variaci?n del desempe?o de los estudiantes. Esa alternativa son las unidades did?cticas multimediales, que conjugan la presentaci?n atractiva de contenidos con elementos motivacionales que pueden responder a las caracter?sticas de los estudiantes sujetos de este estudio.
This documentary research study sought a methodological alternative focused on motivation which can help secondary school students in the Education Institution Santo Tom?s de Aquino, in the municipality of Guarne, Antioquia, Colombia to achieve a steadier performance when learning English. The reason to develop this study was the need to improve their mastery of such an important language, especially now when the country is interested in participating in the globalized world. The identified research problem was that students? performance varied greatly when learning English and that, depending on the methodology applied, students showed apathy and little enjoyment for learning. Therefore, it was thought that motivation might influence performance in learning English and, if so, it might be possible to find a strategy based upon it to help them improve their performance. Due to COVID19, it was necessary to follow a documentary approach to investigate the problem. Consequently, the search process focused on finding and evaluating information related to the role of motivation in learning a foreign language and strategies that could be adapted to students? characteristics in order to choose an option that may help them have a steadier performance when learning English. Finally, and after critically analyzing different theoretical, methodological and legal information, it was possible to select an appropriate strategy to increase students? motivation for the learning English process. That option was the Multimedia Didactic Unit. This strategy combines attractive presentation of contents with motivational elements and both things may be used to have an impact on the performance of the students of secondary level of the Educational Institution Santo Tom?s de Aquino.
