In this paper a preliminary study about the location of an offshore wind farm in Panama is presented. This study takes into accounts economic, touristic, environmental and social factors of the regions additionally to the wind speed of the sites. It is important to point out that using the software Earth, the Panamanian coastal sites (Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Colon and West Panama) with the most suitable wind potential were determined; however, using the Environmental Atlas of the Panamanian Ministry of Environment and other tools, various zones of the country where discarded based on the limitations that the aforementioned factors had over a project of this type. The result of our analysis indicates that the most suitable place for locating an offshore wind farm would be Colon’s Costa Arriba.
En este artículo se presenta un estudio preliminar sobre la ubicación de un parque eólico marino en Panamá, tomando en cuenta factores económicos, turísticos, ambientales y sociales de las regiones aunados a la velocidad del viento del lugar. Cabe señalar que haciendo uso del software Earth, se obtuvieron los sitios con potencial de viento más favorables de las costas de Panamá (Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Colón y Panamá Oeste); sin embargo, utilizando el Atlas Ambiental del Ministerio de Ambiente y otras herramientas, se fueron descartando diversas zonas del país en donde los factores antes mencionados limitasen un proyecto de este tipo. Los resultados de nuestro análisis indican que el lugar más apto para la instalación de un parque eólico marino sería la Costa Arriba de Colón.
