Description

This research collected Inga species samples in Chiriqui, along all year during 2004-2008 period; this included points located since 0 meter at level of the sea until 2000 meters. It is determined that there are 30 species of Inga known in Chiriqui, 20 Inga species have been previously reported for this province. Seven new species of Inga have been found in Chiriqui, including two new reports for Panama; three species are undetermined at species level for later studies. The greatest number of Inga species is located in Chiriqui lowlands (69,2 %) and this number diminishes while the hight is increasing. Most Inga species are located along roads (80,7 %) and rivers (69,2 %). There is a variety of patterns of Inga phenology, but two peaks for flowering and fruiting along the year can be established. The leaves, floral and fruit morphology is basic for an easy differentiation of Inga from other genera, but an analysis of each structure is required for species level identification
